Hi Jamie - a question - am I thinking this through correctly? We have already begun some "automatic" leave it with odour and model (and food) in the Hoop game - now this Wk 2 Day 1 is a Find/Indicate the odour game - it appears we could "confuse" the dog - (is the dog supposed to avoid snake or indicate snake?) -but the dog is not confused because we are giving a specific cue - Find It. So - in the dog's mind - cue "Find Snake" means locate and indicate snake - and if the cue hasn't been given, the dog should not offer that behaviour without a cue. But if a cue Find Snake isn't given, and dog smells snake odour, should it actively avoid the snake scent or just do nothing? What cues/signals are we relying on when we want the dog to avoid snake - is it the combination of sight AND scent? Does avoidance become the default, unless given the cue Find Snake? Thanks!
This week is about identifying the odor and yes, about putting it on cue.
Eventually we'll add the run away from that odor once identified and find a human to tell them about it.

Yes, we already got started on leave that odor alone but there is no certainty that they were leaving the "odor" so now we make sure.
