The $2 Investment

Wag n Tails, the local mom and pop pet store here on Coronado, has a 2-tub self-bathe setup in the back of the store.  They also have a special $2 charge for service dogs.  Yesterday Lily and I went and tried it out.

Not only does Lily now shine and smell wonderful (she was shampooed with Almond/Jojoba shampoo), but it was a wonderful training opportunity.

It's a very small shop.  With two resident dogs.  Spike, the black Chihuahua, has a "Spike" mentality (he even wears a spike collar!) and Jake, the black Great Dane.  So, upon entering, Lily was confronted by Spike, who was determined to establish right from the get-go just who was in charge of this shop.

I had never bathed Lily at a dog wash.  Lily entered the tub on cue, but she knew immediately what it was for and she obviously wasn't happy about it.  So, since I was treatless, I ended up hooking her to the tether.

I LOVED it!  No bending over!  And abundance of clean towels, a choice of shampoo, all of the amenities you expect at a dogwash.  And someone else cleans up after us.

As we checked out, a Rottie and a Lab came in and went down the other aisle (there are only two).  Spike was greeting them.  There are temptations and smells and toys - all at nose level.

As I said.  Wonderful training opportunities.  Lily may soon become the most bathed dog in Coronado.   She is going to get lots more exposure to Orange Avenue.....urban dog training.   And next time, we will train staying in the tub un-tethered.


A belated PS:  Lily is now sporting a lovely collection of Jojobumps - an allergic reaction to the scented shampoo!
